Every year, on the second weekend of September, thousands of beautiful monuments throughout the Netherlands are open to the public for free. In Helmond, various museums and landmarks also open their doors. This year's theme is ‘routes, networks, and connections’. It is definitely not a program intended, with all due respect, just for "grey heads." Plenty of thought has been given to children as well. And it’s certainly worth mentioning that everything is free to visit.

Industrieel Atrium
How was money earned in the past in the factories of Helmond? Textile and metal industries or printing houses: the Industrial Atrium shows it all. Explore the Industrial Heritage and create a bookmark with wooden printing letters. Free of charge!

De Cacaofabriek
De Cacaofabriek
At the Cacaofabriek on Engelseweg, a film will be shown with authentic footage from 80 years ago, about the liberation of Helmond. Additionally, several films about old Helmond will be presented. Our city historian, Jan van Bussel, will act as the narrator for these films.

Lambertus Church
Visit the St. Lambert Church on Saturday. A three-aisled cruciform basilica, built between 1856 and 1861. The church wardens' guild will be happy to explain the interior, the recently completed restorations of the wall paintings, and the high altar. Let yourself be surprised on Saturday by the music of the famous Robustelly organ, which is over 250 years old.

The Barrel Organ Museum
In the Barrel Organ Museum, located in Loods20, 100-year-old organs bring the old times back to life. You will be given a guided tour and can enjoy the Grote and Kleine Gaudin, the Blauwe Trom, and other beautiful organs. The Grote Gaudin turns 100 years old this year, which is a reason for a celebration with a nostalgic carousel outside. For children, it is also possible to play "Onze Klenne," make music strips for music boxes, and play a song on the Boot Organ under supervision.

Anna Theatre
The church, located in the Hoogeind district, was built in 1954. The architect was Jos Bijnen. In 1996, due to declining church attendance, the church was decommissioned as a place of worship. In 2003, the building was repurposed as a small theater: the Annatheater. During Open Monuments Day, you can participate in the "Flag Garland" workshop. You can make fun items, like a flag garland, from old clothing. This workshop is part of the fashion project "A Line Through Fast Fashion."

Sint Trudo church en H.Lucia church
The parish of Damiaan de Veuster is participating with two churches, both national monuments. Both churches are neo-Gothic in architectural style. The churches are admirably well preserved and both the interior and exterior are more than worth seeing. In addition to walking around freely (some parts of the church such as the altar are not accessible), chasubles are exhibited and their meaning will be explained. Several chalices used in the liturgy are also on display and the adjacent cemetery is open to visitors.

Small Orphanage
In the Sluishuisje at lock 7, Lockmaster and artist Marlon will be happy to welcome you with a cup of coffee or tea. He likes to tell you about the canal. With the project Verhaal aan de K`naal he prepares us for the two hundredth anniversary of the Zuid-Willemsvaart.
In the Brugwachtershuisje at the Julianabrug, artist Paul de Maat, alias Bram de Visserman, has turned this orphanage into a unique fishing museum in recent years. He knew nothing about fishing and started the Royal Dutch Fishermen's House here. Bram invites everyone to bring a maritime item and leave it behind. He turns it into something artistic. In this way, the Fishermen's House continues to grow and flourish.
Both orphanages can be visited on Sunday 15 September from 11 am to 5 pm.

EDAH Museum
The EDAH museum, also located in Loods20, will participate in Open Monument Day 2024 in Helmond on both days. A presentation entitled 'From EDAH to Oranjekade' will be shown in the coffee room.

Cycling tour Postal route 1852
The MonumentenWerkgroep Helmond, together with the Heemkundekringen of Laarbeek and Gemert-Bakel, has developed a cycling tour based on this year's theme 'On the way'. This cycling tour depicts the route that the postman walked around 1850 from Helmond to Gemert and back. He did this daily. The route has been put together as a cycling junction route. The cycling tour will also be distributed during the Open Monument Days via, among others, the participating monuments.
